Everton are confident of re-signing forward Wayne Rooney from Manchester United this summer, according to talkSPORT.
It’s being reported that a move back to Goodison Park this summer for United’s record goalscorer is ‘almost inevitable’.
Rooney, who supported Everton as a youngster and made his professional debut with the Merseyside club, has openly said that he would not play for any other Premier League side than the Toffees were he to quit Old Trafford.
Rooney still has 12 months left on his contract at Old Trafford but Everton believe that the 31-year-old would like to rejoin the club this summer and are making him one of their top priorities this transfer window.
The Englishman has fallen down the pecking order at United since Jose Mourinho’s arrival as manager. Able to play up front or in midfield, Rooney’s versatility will be an attractive option for Ronald Koeman who does like to experiment with a more fluid attack.
Everton have already spent a combined total of £60million to bring in highly rated goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from Sunderland, midfielder Davy Klaassen from Ajax and Malaga striker Sandro Ramirez, with Burnley’s Michael Keane set to follow.
